Luc Dupuis, the maker of PeacePans

For a decade Luc Dupuis has been a dedicated handpan maker, musician, and craftsman based in Hamilton, Ontario—Canada’s Steel City. With a deep appreciation for sound and artistry, he handcrafts each PeacePan from raw stainless steel, shaping, tuning, and refining every instrument to bring out its fullest harmonic potential. His goal is simple: to create instruments that inspire, connect, and resonate on a deeply personal level.

Luc’s journey into handpan making is rooted in a lifelong love of music and craftsmanship. In addition to creating handpans, he is a talented multi-instrumentalist, playing and making didgeridoos, as well as performing on bansuri flute and guitar. As a member of Dirty Hippie Music, he channels his passion for organic, rhythmic soundscapes, blending world influences into immersive musical experiences.

Humble and meticulous in his craft, Luc believes that each handpan has its own unique voice.

Whether forging a one-of-a-kind Peace Pan or fine-tuning an accessible CanPan, he brings the same level of dedication and care to every instrument. His work is more than just making handpans—it’s about building a community of musicians, sound healers, and explorers, offering them instruments that invite creativity, meditation, and connection.

How It All Began

It all started with impatience—funny enough.

At 19 years old, Luc was introduced to the handpan and was instantly captivated by its soothing resonance and simple, organic design. The more he listened, the more he fell in love. But when he began researching how to get one, he quickly realized the harsh reality: wait times stretched upward of 10 years.

Frustrated but determined, Luc thought, "No problem... I’ll just make one!"

Well, there was a problem—several problems. Making a handpan turned out to be a labyrinth of challenges, requiring precision, patience, and knowledge that few people possessed at the time. As he dove deeper into the process, he had another thought:

"What if I contact a maker to learn how to make them?"

At that time, there were only five known makers crafting quality handpans worldwide. Luc reached out to all five, hoping to apprentice under a skilled craftsman. To his surprise, one of them responded. Within a month, he was on a plane to California for an interview, and soon after, he began his journey as an apprentice. Over the next three years, Luc spent time learning the intricate art of handpan-making—shaping, tuning, and refining every detail to create instruments that resonate with depth, warmth, and soul.

Now, as the maker behind Peace Pans & CanPan, Luc continues his dedication to the craft—honouring tradition while making handpans more accessible. His journey, sparked by a simple impatience, has evolved into a lifelong passion for sound, craftsmanship, and connection.
